Minnesota Takes 2006 Big Ten Tournament Crown
The Minnesota Golden Gophers, led by a very strong finals performance,
claimed the 2006 Big Ten Tournament title. The Gophers claimed individual
titles at 149 lbs from Dustin Schlatter, at 157 lbs from CP Schlatter,
at 184 lbs from Roger Kish, and at heavyweight from Cole Konrad.
For Illinois, which trailed by a slim margin heading into the day,
it was a nightmarish final day in which all five of their finalists
lost. The other individual champions were Nick and Andy Simmons
of Michigan State at 125 and 141 lbs respectiveley, Tom Clum of
Wisconsin at 133 lbs, Ryan Churella of Michigan at 165 lbs, Jake
Herbert of Northwestern at 174 lbs, and Phil Davis of Penn State
at 197 lbs.
